Corryong XC Tour

Whether flying alpine mountains for the first or hundredth time questions are always asked ….

How did you know there would be a thermal there?
I didn’t make it to the goal, what should I do next time to make it?
Should I be launching earlier?
How do you know when you have enough height to cross the valley?
Why is he always on top of the stack?

This year we aim to help answer these questions and many, many more.

Corryong XC Tour
Join us for an exciting five days of cross country flying & tuition in the picturesque ‘Man from Snowy River’ country, around Corryong. Some may choose to stay on and fly in the entry level hang gliding competition “The Corryong Cup’ in the following week. Included in the cost are daily transport to the top of Mt Elliot and retrieval after your flight or flights.

Accommodation
You can book your accommodation at the Colac Colac Caravan Park on the Highway 6km from Corryong.

Meals
Evening meals will be provided as part of the tour costs on days one, three and five.
After breakfast at the camp site questions will be answered with respect to anticipated flying conditions for the day, preliminary task setting and share each others goals for the days flying. Each day we will hold theory sessions developed to improve your flying knowledge.
You can pack your own lunch or pick something up from the Bakery or numerous other eateries in Corryong before we all head up in the tour 4WD’s to lunch at launch.

Radio Communication
It is expected that all participants will be carrying a UHF radio capable of CTCSS operation. This allows us uninterrupted communication between your leader, retrieve drivers and pilots. However, as many of the famers in the area do use UHF radio to communicate between themselves and their families we do ask that you think about what you want to say before you switch the microphone on – we may not be able to hear them, but the chances are they can hear us. Keep your message concise. Any offensive language over the radio, or locking your microphone on, is deemed a carton-able offence (you must purchase a slab of drinkable beer) for all XC tour participants’ enjoyment at that evenings meal time.

Maps
We will provide maps for the tour, this way everyone has the same information in front of them when they give their landing location details. This should speed up retrieves.
