Dynamic Flight XC Tour
Dynamic XC Airtime Tours. Our aim is to maximise your airtime.
How did you know there would be a thermal there?
I didn’t make it to the goal, what should I do next time to make it?
Should I be launching earlier?
Why is he always on top of the stack?
This year we aim to help answer these questions and many, many more.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided for tour participants at the Dynamic Flight School bungalows:
*Twin share rooms. One double. We have new stand alone units available.
* Wood heated mud-brick common room with TV, videos and DVDs, flying mags etc.
*Spacious eating area, undercover open air with views, bar-b-q, drinks fridge.
*Limited download satellite broadband is available for those with laptops
Meals
All meals are provided daily.
Continental breakfast supplied eg cereals, milk, tea, coffee
It is suggested you bring along a drinking container to fill with our rainwater before heading out to the paddock. As the weather is normally warm you will tend to dehydrate quite quickly – so keep the fluid intake up. Allow yourself 3 litres per day.
Towing
Some days may be more suitable for towing than going to the mountains or coastal ridges. We will supply all the tows than you can handle.
If you want more than one XC flight in a day there will be vehicles available for quick retrieves so you can come back to the flight park for another tow if you feel up to it.
All tow ropes and gauges are supplied by us therefore there will be no need to bring along your own. You will however need to bring along a tow bridle; it is also handy to have a spare just in case. If you don’t have a bridle or need to purchase another one please contact us at least two weeks prior to attending the tour so we can ensure stock is available.
We will once again be following the HGFA guidelines to towing, and as all of you hold your endorsement should know all the following commands
Driver Ready to take up tension
Pilot Take up tension please
Driver I have tension this end
Pilot I have tension this end also
Locking on the radio
Picking up the glider
Wind is xx strength
Wings are level
Bridle is free and clear
Go, go, go
Airborne
Thanks for the tow, unlocking the radio
As a reminder – anyone leaving their radio locked on for more than a minute after tow is required to shout drinks for the crew that night!
Radio Communication
It is expected that all participants will be carrying a UHF radio capable of CTCSS operation. This allows us uninterrupted communication between your leader, retrieve drivers and pilots.
However, as many of the famers in the area do use UHF radio to communicate between themselves and their families we do ask that you think about what you want to say before you switch the microphone on – we may not be able to hear them, but the chances are they can hear us. Keep your message concise.
Any offensive language over the radio, or locking your microphone on, is deemed a cartonable offence (you must purchase a slab of drinkable beer) for all XC tour participants’ enjoyment at that evenings meal time.
Maps
We will provide maps for the tour areas, this way everyone has the same information in front of them when they give their landing location details. This speeds up retrieves.
Day One
9am Be in the Dynamic outdoor eating area for a safety brief, theory and discussion on out-landings, flying XC, radio calls and thermal ling.
10.30 to 11.00am Check weather information, discuss site options, load vehicles with gliders and flying gear and head out to the flying site.
12pm onwards Set up and pre-flight gliders. A short briefing will take place prior to commencing flight to determine flight path, possible landing locations, hazards on landings, etc. When everything/everyone is ready and conditions are good we will start launching.
After completing long flights and being retrieved we will head back to our HQ for our evening meal and a de-brief on the days flying.
Second day to through to last day.
9.30am to 10.30am. Breakfast and morning briefing with hand outs.
10.30am onwards as per previous day.
